Cowen and Wright vs. Dawkins

In a recent discussion between Tyler Cowen and Robert Wright, both Cowen and Wright called the new atheist movement unfortunate, although neither, as one commenter points out, say why. Richard Dawkins, on the other hand, explicitly states his reasons for militant atheism.

Cowen and Wright, as far as I can tell, are both agnostic, although Wright at times unconvincingly claims to be a "seculary Bhuddist." So if neither Cowen or Wright are religious, then why do they find new atheism unfortunate?
